Two of the best in the business, Canoe Racing NZ’s Development Coach Craig Mustard and Best Foot Forward NZ’s Bob McLachlan have banded together to offer a two-day paddling tuition course.
The combined knowledge of the South African Youth Olympics medal winner and Kiwi World Adventure Racing Champion is huge, with 45 years of kayaking and coaching between them.
Craig brings 15 years of kayaking success both domestically and on the international stage. He is passionate about: “Helping people to enjoy the sport that given me so much and continues to give me so much satisfaction.”
“Kayaking is not the easiest sport to do but it’s also not the hardest sport to get right, if you know the basic, fundamental principles of how to best use your boat, body and paddle correctly. This clinic’s ultimate goal is to help people become more economical and more comfortable with their paddling,” Craig says.
Bob chased the endless summer dream as an international raft guide for 20 years; won world championship medals as a waka ama paddler and went on to become a World Adventure Racing Champion in 2017 with New Zealand’s Team Seagate.
He founded Wanaka-based adventure company Best Foot Forward NZ in 2016 and is a Coast to Coast-endorsed Grade 2 Multisport Kayak Certificate Assessor.
“I see so many inefficiencies in technique holding people back. They put in the training hours building strength but it’s the refinement of their paddling performance that lets them down. This weekend is about honing your paddle stroke and taking away some new-found knowledge to advance your paddling to a new level,” Bob says.
