Pure Sports Nutrition Coast to Coast Training Camp in Wanaka – Sept 20 – 22

Best Foot Forward NZ’s kayaking guru Bob McLachlan is teaming up with 2024 Kathmandu Coast to Coast-winner Hamish Elliott to run a training weekend in beautiful Wanaka – September 20 to 22.

Expect informative bike/run/paddle sessions in some stunning locations; tons of awesome advice from these two knowledgeable blokes; epic accommodation; all meals included; plus takeaway tips that will enhance your C2C experience! 👊

We are stoked to have Pure Sports Nutrition on board and their team has put together an awesome package with training, racing and recovery products for each athlete attending the camp.

Whether you are a newbie coaster or a seasoned campaigner, there will be some key tips for everyone to take away that will boost your chances of having an epic Coast to Coast race in 2025.”

ITINERARY

Friday, Sept 20 6pm: Meet at your accomm for the next two nights – The Long House – in Wanaka. Meet and greet evening with Bob and Hamish. Outline of what you will be doing over the next two days and discuss what you’d like to get out of this training camp.
* Dinner provided.
* Receive your pack of Pure Sport Nutrition goodies, which will include training, racing and recovery products.


Saturday Sept 21: After a hearty breakfast, get your lycra on and talk through the three C2C bike stages. Head out for a bunch ride towards Treble Cone.

Session includes:

* Bunch riding and racing etiquette
* Bike set up
* Bike skills – cornering, braking, uphill and downhill
* Pedalling technique
* Bike nutrition
* Understanding race day bike issues and how to avoid them

Back to base for lunch and change into your run kit.

Head out to Lake Hawea in the van and run up the Timaru River track.

Session includes:

* River crossings
* Tree roots and terrain
* Negotiating rocks and large boulders
* Run technique for Goat Pass
* Pacing
* Run nutrition and hydration

After a well-earned dinner back at The Long House. Bob and Hamish will talk you through piecing together your best Coast to Coast race, including:

* Training programmes, strength conditioning and rest.
* Support crew roles and preparation
* Race goals and mindset
* Nutrition and hydration
* Gear for each discipline

Sunday Sept 22: After a hearty breakfast get into your paddling gear and head to Lake Wanaka for a flatwater technique session, then take these skills onto the river.

Today’s session will cover:

* Kayak choice, set up and maintenance checks.
* Paddles and gear
* Paddling technique and drills
* River reading and running
* Kayak nutrition and hydration
* Preparing for capsizing/weather/time cut-off
* Stop for a riverside packed lunch (provided).

Shuttle will be waiting at the take-out to transport you and your kayak back to base.
Final debrief and question/answer session.
3.30pm: Depart Wanaka with a ton of new knowledge and a sheet of Bob and Hamish’s personal ‘takeaways’ – advice that will help make your Coast to Coast experience the best it can be!

What you will need: A full gear list will be sent after payment is made. Barracuda kayaks (Beachcomber, Enigma and Waimak) are available to rent for $50. Gear rental (paddle, PFD, helmet) can also be arranged.

*15 days prior to C2C Training Camp, no refund available
